Flight confirmed to evacuate Germany-based Ghanaians from Ghana

The Ghana government has given the necessary clearance for Germany-based Ghanaians currently in Ghana to be evacuated to Germany on Sunday the 7th of June. The aircraft will arrive in Accra from Riga International Airport in Latvia the night before and layover prior to the flight the following day.

Travelers on this flight will be subject to strict baggage standards of one check-in baggage of no more than 24kg and one carry-on bag of no heavier than 5kg. the cost per head is a meagre 750 Euros, which is one of the cheapest of the evacuation flights.

The flight is scheduled to depart the Kotoka International Airport at 11am, arrive at Algiers International Airport at 3:45pm, then depart at 4:30 pm to arrive in Dusseldorf at 7:15 pm.

After a long and arduous set of logistical arrangements, the presidency approved the evacuation in a letter dated June 2 authorizing the flight. “By a copy of this letter,” the letter signed by the president’s Executive Secretary read, “the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Ghana immigration Service and the National Security Coordinator are to grant the necessary permits/passes to enable them travel.”

The Ghanaian community in Germany is one of the most dynamic having organized a series of conference calls to discuss how their displaced colleagues would not only be flown back to their places of abode, but to ensure that those facing coronavirus-related economic difficulties are catered for as well.
