Concerned galamsey operator threatens to resort to armed robbery in response to government clampdown on illegal mining.

Tensions are rising within illegal mining communities as some operators express strong opposition to the government’s intensified clampdown on galamsey.

One concerned galamseyer issued a direct warning, claiming that miners may resort to crime if the government does not halt its operations against them.

“If you’re going to stop the galamsey, then we are also going to begin armed robbery, and we will begin from the district assembly office,” the miner declared in a recorded message directed at President Mahama.

The statement has sparked public concern, with many describing it as a dangerous escalation of frustration over the government’s efforts to protect water bodies and restore degraded lands.

Authorities are yet to officially respond to the threat, but security analysts have urged swift engagement with communities to prevent further unrest.
