A suspected illegal miner has stirred outrage after reportedly urging colleagues to launch violent attacks against police officers and soldiers who attempt to clamp down on illegal mining activities.
In a provocative statement circulating locally, the unidentified miner is alleged to have encouraged fellow “galamsey” operators to “shoot, kill, or butcher” any security personnel who arrive at their mining sites.
The inflammatory remarks have heightened fears of potential clashes between illegal miners and law enforcement, particularly in regions where anti-galamsey operations are ongoing.
Security analysts warn that such statements could embolden resistance to government interventions aimed at curbing illegal mining, which continues to devastate water bodies, forests, and farmlands across Ghana.
Authorities have yet to officially comment on the matter, but the call for violence comes at a time when the government has intensified its campaign against illegal mining with military and police deployments.
