AdubianewsA phone seller at Kumasi-Adum PZ has criticized President John Mahama’s recent decision to cancel fuel allowances for government appointees, describing it as a strategic move aimed at winning public approval ahead of the next election.
“Why did President Mahama cancel the fuel allowance? Is it because he has the majority in Parliament? He’s canceling it just to impress Ghanaians and seek another term,” the vendor stated in a street interview.
He argued that fuel allowances are necessary for facilitating the duties of appointees, and scrapping them could affect government operations. In his view, the cancellation may not be as beneficial as it appears.
His comments reflect a segment of public skepticism surrounding the government’s decision, despite analysts estimating the move could save over GH¢121 million within four years.
