A new poll by Global InfoAnalytics indicates that President John Dramani Mahama would win the 2024 general election by an even wider margin if the polls were held again.
The survey, released on December 31, shows 62 per cent of respondents expressing support for President Mahama, compared to 31 per cent for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. Independent candidates Alan Kyerematen and Nana Kwame Bediako each secured 2 per cent, while the remaining 3 per cent was shared among other contenders.
Regionally, the poll suggests a shift in voting patterns. While Dr Bawumia is projected to maintain his hold on the Northern Region, he is expected to lose the Eastern Region to President Mahama. The data also reveals notable cross-party voting, with 11 per cent of respondents who identify as NPP supporters indicating they would vote for President Mahama. Conversely, 4 per cent of NDC supporters said they would back Dr Bawumia.
Beyond the 2024 race, the poll also examined internal party dynamics ahead of the 2028 elections. Within the NPP, Dr Bawumia emerges as the preferred choice to lead the party, commanding 56 per cent support overall. He is followed by Kennedy Agyapong with 28 per cent, while Bryan Acheampong and Dr Yaw Osei-Adutwum each polled 6 per cent. Kwabena Agyapong trailed with 4 per cent.
Support for Dr Bawumia becomes even more pronounced among declared NPP supporters, where his backing rises sharply to 72 per cent. Kennedy Agyapong follows at 19 per cent, with Bryan Acheampong polling 4 per cent, Dr Osei-Adutwum 3 per cent, and Kwabena Agyapong 1 per cent.
The survey further explored the race to succeed President Mahama in 2029, revealing a closely fought contest within the NDC. Haruna Iddrisu leads with 26 per cent, though this represents a decline from 29 per cent recorded in October 2025. Finance Minister Dr Ato Forson follows with 23 per cent, up from 18 per cent, while NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia places third with 22 per cent, down from 24 per cent.
Trailing the leading trio are Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang with 11 per cent, Julius Debrah at 7 per cent, and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa with 6 per cent. Professor Joshua Alabi and Eric Opoku each recorded 2 per cent.
However, in an alternative scenario where Professor Opoku-Agyemang, Haruna Iddrisu, Julius Debrah and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa do not contest, the dynamics change significantly. Under that scenario, Dr Ato Forson takes a commanding lead with 48 per cent, ahead of Johnson Asiedu Nketia at 41 per cent, while Professor Joshua Alabi and Eric Opoku poll 6 per cent and 5 per cent, respectively.
