AdubianewsA disturbing video from the Makola Shopping Mall in Accra has surfaced online, showing a woman being lashed by traders after allegedly stealing from a shop. The incident, which occurred in broad daylight, has triggered public outrage and reignited debates on mob justice in Ghana.
In the video, the woman is seen kneeling and pleading for forgiveness while one of the traders whips her repeatedly with what appears to be a belt. Several others watched the scene unfold, with some filming the incident on their phones. The accused woman begged throughout the ordeal, but the beatings continued for several minutes.
Eyewitnesses say the woman had entered a shop pretending to be a customer but was later caught attempting to steal merchandise. Some traders quickly mobilized and confronted her before she could leave the premises. Instead of handing her over to the police, they chose to punish her on the spot.
The video has sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some people condemned the act of stealing, many others strongly criticised the use of mob justice, calling it inhumane and unlawful. Human rights advocates have since called on the police to investigate the incident and bring those involved in the assault to justice.
