National Communications Officer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, in condemning the murder of the Ejura-based social activist, Ibrahim Anyass alias Macho Kaaka and the subsequent events that led to the killing of some three residents on Tuesday, June 27 has said the alleged soldiers that opened fire on the peaceful protesters are not regular soldiers but vigilantes belonging to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking to the press during a visit by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) officials to the family of the slain activist, Sammy Gyamfi said the alleged military personnel who stormed the town are earring wearing hoodlums that have been used several times by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to foment trouble and chaos at different places and times.

“The men who shot into the crowd and killed Muntarla and Abdul Nasiru were not the regular military officers we know. These are bearded earring military officers who we believe are vigilante elements of the New Patriotic Party who have been integrated into the military force. They are the same people who committed atrocities that we all saw during the Awayaso by-elections and got away with it,” he said.

Sammy Gyamfi rhetorically questioned, “how long will our own government that we have elected? How long will our security agencies that we ourselves as a people have established and are paying be used against citizens? How long will the security be used to shoot, maim and kill their own citizens?”

The Communication Officer said unlike many other issues and cases that had been swept under the carpet, the National Democratic Congress will go at any length to secure justice for the bereaved “because that is the only way we can have peace in Ejura.”
