The Minority in Parliament has expressed its readiness for constructive engagement on the 2026 Budget but emphasized that it will support only policies that genuinely serve Ghana’s national interest.
The assurance was given by Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei during the opening of a post-budget workshop in Parliament on Friday.
Speaking on behalf of the Minority caucus, Appiagyei stressed that while the team remains committed to productive debate, it will insist on strict accountability from the government.
“We will hold the government to account for every cedi approved,” she said, noting that fiscal discipline and transparency are non-negotiable.
The three-day workshop brings together Members of Parliament, technocrats, and policy analysts ahead of next week’s formal budget debate.
The sessions are aimed at helping MPs understand the figures, policies, and economic assumptions presented by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, whose budget is the first full-year plan under his tenure.
Appiagyei added that the Minority will assess each proposal based on its impact on ordinary Ghanaians. The caucus will back measures that promote economic stability, job creation, and responsible spending while scrutinizing policies that may not align with the national interest.
