Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a close aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has criticized the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for declaring former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta wanted, claiming the action stems from a bruised ego rather than solid legal justification.
Appearing on Newsfile on JoyNews on Saturday, June 7, Aboagye alleged that the OSP’s pursuit of Ofori-Atta is politically driven and lacks a credible legal foundation.
The OSP took steps to declare Mr. Ofori-Atta wanted after he failed to respond to a summons by the June 2 deadline. This was followed by a formal request to INTERPOL for a Red Notice after rejecting medical documentation from his legal team, which cited cancer-related health issues.
On June 5, Ofori-Atta was officially listed in INTERPOL’s Red Notice database, complete with personal and physical details, a move many, including Aboagye, have deemed excessive.
Aboagye described the decision as an abuse of authority, arguing that it appears more like an act of vengeance than a pursuit of justice. He called for due legal process to prevail and warned against turning national institutions into tools for public spectacle.
“This declaration seems less about law and more about bruised egos. When medical evidence is presented and still disregarded, it raises questions about the intentions behind these actions,” he said.
“We must ensure that our institutions uphold the law impartially and respect due process, rather than succumbing to political pressures or personal grievances,” he added.
Miracle also urged stakeholders to exercise caution and safeguard the legal rights of the former minister as investigations continue.
