AdubianewsVice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has delivered a deeply emotional tribute to the eight Ghanaians who lost their lives in the tragic August 6 military helicopter crash. The tribute was given during the state burial held at the forecourt of the State House on Friday, August 15.
In her address, the Vice President reflected on what the days should have been, moments of work, planning, and steady progress toward Ghana’s national development, instead of a nation united in grief.
She highlighted the victims’ unwavering commitment to duty, noting their determination to serve with focus, their readiness to report on progress, share challenges, and adapt strategies whenever needed.
In a poignant part of her tribute, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang directed her words to the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, recalling an “outstanding meeting” they both attended as members of the Ghana Armed Forces Council. She remembered how they pledged to clear agenda items swiftly and work closely for the country’s good, a promise tragically cut short.
Acknowledging the harsh reality that “man proposes, God disposes,” she praised the fallen for their examples of selflessness, loyalty, justice, and dedication.
She further urged Ghanaians to draw strength from their legacy and channel it into building a better nation. “As we reset our country,” she said, “you are always with us… Rest in peace.”
Her tribute, delivered under the three-day national mourning period, served as a reminder that Ghana has not only lost public servants but also mentors, colleagues, and friends whose absence will be felt for years to come.
