Maxwell Konadu is the new coach of Asante Kotoko SC after signing a 2-year deal.

The 47 year old coach was unveiled at the club’s training grounds at Adako Jachie. He replaces Kjetil Zachariassen ahead of the new Ghana Premier League.

Zachariassen was sacked from the club following the side’s failure to qualify to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup this year.

He would be taking over the dug out with an improved CV having worked as assistant to Coach Kwasi Appiah at the Black Stars job as well as leading to Black Stars B side to win the WAFU competition hosted in Ghana in 2017.

He also emerged as the best coach at the 2019 WAFU competition which was hosted in Senegal after leading the team to win silver.

Konadu was voted as the manager of the tournament at the 2019 WAFU tournament which the Black Stars B came second to Senegal in the final after losing on penalties.

He guided the Porcupine Warriors to a 22nd league title in 2011/2012.

This will be Konadu’s second stint with the Porcupines.

Konadu’s first major challenge will be to lead the club to glory in the 2019 Ghana President’s Cup replay against Accra Hearts of Oak which has been scheduled for December 15, the Ghana League Clubs Association (Ghalca).

The match, which honours the West African nation’s sitting president Nana Akufo-Addo, was called off less than 10 minutes into the first meeting due to the soggy pitch at Kumasi’s Baba Yara Sports Stadium in September.

The venue of the replay has been set for the Accra Sports Stadium.
