In a fiery rebuke of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Defence Minister and outgoing Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has accused the government of abandoning the real needs of Ghanaians in favour of political ambition.
His criticism came hot on the heels of the NPP’s announcement that it will hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, a move Dr. Boamah sees as proof that the party’s mind is already on the 2028 elections, rather than on fixing the mess it has allegedly created.
Taking to Facebook on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, the Minister didn’t mince words. “The Competent Economic Management Team did enough damage to pensioners, people with disabilities, women, the youth, and Ghanaians in general,” he wrote. “In six short months, instead of apologising sincerely for their misdeeds, they’re focusing on the next elections.”
The NPP’s decision, made during a National Executive Committee meeting in Accra, sparked outrage from Boamah, who called it a reflection of the party’s long-standing pattern of putting politics before people.
“NPP thinks only about themselves and the next elections,” he declared, summing up what he sees as the party’s self-centered governance philosophy.
He ended his post on a subtle but unmistakable note, a quiet echo of the NDC’s rallying cry: “The Alternative Is…” A reminder, perhaps, that the opposition party is ready to offer not just a change in leadership, but a shift in priorities, one that puts citizens first.
