AdubianewsThe Ghana Police Service has invited key political parties to a crucial stakeholder meeting as preparations intensify for the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
In a letter signed by the Commissioner of Police and Director-General of Administration, Dr David Agyemang Adjem, the Police announced that the meeting will take place on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the 5th Floor Conference Room of the Police Headquarters in Accra.
According to the correspondence, the session is intended to create a platform where parties can deliberate on election-related security concerns and operational logistics, while also reviewing the preparedness of the Electoral Commission (EC).
“The meeting will discuss the modalities for the by-election as well as the Electoral Commission’s preparedness and their roadmap for the parliamentary by-election,” the letter stated.
The Police Administration emphasized the importance of collaboration, urging all political parties to actively participate in order to ensure a peaceful and transparent electoral process. Security agencies have repeatedly stressed the need to curb tensions and prevent violence, particularly in politically sensitive constituencies like Akwatia.
The Electoral Commission, which holds the constitutional mandate to organize the by-election, was also copied in the communication. Observers believe the meeting could set the tone for cooperation between political actors and security agencies, fostering an environment that guarantees safety and credibility during the polls.
