AdubianewsFormer Kumbungu MP Ras Mubarak is calling on African countries, including Ghana, to rethink their governance and development approaches by learning from innovative practices across the continent.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, September 16, 2025, Mubarak shared insights from his ongoing 163-day road trip across 39 African countries, part of the Trans Africa Tourism and Campaign for a visa-free Africa by 2030.
Reflecting on his first visit to Equatorial Guinea, he expressed admiration for the country’s infrastructure and governance style. “It was my first time in Equatorial Guinea, and I was completely blown away. Beautiful city, smooth roads, and you can drive for five hours with zero potholes,” he said, contrasting the experience with conditions in Accra.
He highlighted Equatorial Guinea’s practice of alternating government operations every six months between Malabo, the island capital, and Bata, on the mainland. Mubarak noted that this system ensures a more balanced spread of development and state activity.
“If you look at our country, everything is centred in Accra, and it is getting choked. We haven’t fully decided what we want to do with the city of Accra. Perhaps this is a development model Ghana can learn from,” he explained.
Mubarak, also an activist and seasoned traveller, is expected back in Ghana on January 28, 2026, after completing the 40,000-kilometre journey.
