Real Madrid players have rallied behind Vinicius Junior after Manchester City’s Rodri was awarded the Ballon d’Or, bypassing the Brazilian star despite his standout performances. The award, which marked Rodri as the first City player to claim football’s most coveted individual honor, has stirred debate across the football world.

While Rodri’s season was undeniably impressive—leading Spain to Euro 2024 victory and helping City secure the Premier League, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup titles—many within the Real Madrid squad were vocal about their belief that Vinicius deserved the accolade. Eduardo Camavinga posted a passionate message on social media, declaring, “FOOTBALL POLITICS ❌. My brother, you are the best player in the world, and no award can say otherwise. Love you, my bro ❤️.”

Similarly, Madrid defender Eder Militao expressed his admiration, writing, “You are the best, and no one can take that away from you! The Best! .” Fellow midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni encouraged Vinicius to keep pushing forward: “Nothing will take away what you’ve achieved, my brother. We ALL know…They are not ready for what you’re gonna deliver. Love .” Young star Arda Guler added his support, simply saying, “I love you.”

In contrast, Jude Bellingham, who earned third place—the highest finish for an English player since 2005—and Kylian Mbappe have been notably silent on the matter, sparking curiosity given their close bond with Vinicius. As Madrid’s fans continue to voice their support, the squad’s public show of solidarity highlights the growing conversation around the criteria for football’s top awards.
