Radio and Television personality Afia Pokuaa has said that it will be very difficult for any member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to contest John Dramani Mahama for the flagbearership spot in the 2024 elections in Ghana.

According to her, although the party has a number of qualified hands, John Dramani Mahama has solidified his stance in the party and it will be needless even for the NDC to go for congress to elect another person to lead it as it’s flagbearer in 2024.

To her, unless John Dramani Mahama does not show interest in the flagbearership, no member of the NDC can beat him in the race.

“Unless President John Dramani Mahama says he is not interested in the 2024 flagbearershop race. But if he’s interested, by virtue of this election petition, he has solidified his place. My point is based on happenings in the 2012 election petition. Prior to that period, Nana had contested President Kufuor far back as 1996…”

She continued “In 2024 President Mahama having marketed himself, there will be no NDC candidate who can take him off the flagbearership position unless he decides he’s not contesting. Unless you have somebody like Doe Ajaho but he does not have the resources or you have somebody like Alban Bagbin who can contest Mahama after four years of being the Speaker of Parliament but will he have the kind of ressources Mahama has to feed delegates”.

“Politically, if you compare Alban Bagbin to President Mahama, Alban Bagbin is way ahead of President Mahama but currently, Alban Bagbin does not have the resources like President Mahama does. The way President Mahama has marketed himself to the footsoldiers of the party, Bagbin has not.”

She indicated that in 2024, the Central Region will not be a deciding region and therefore there will be no need for the NDC to field Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang as a running mate to the party’s flagbearer like they did in 2020.
