Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper Kwesi Pratt Jnr has described the decision by the Electoral Commission (EC) to compile a New Voters register for the 2020 elections as needless and a wanton waste of scarce state resources.
According to him, the EC’s insistence to go ahead with the compilation of a new register against the majority decision has the potential of plunging the nation into the abyss.
“Somebody is being deliberately mischievous. Somebody, some institution, some organization is deliberately attempting to push the country into the precipice, Mr. Pratt said.”
Speaking as a panelist on Alhaji and Alhaji on Pan African TV on Saturday, Mr. Pratt explained that prior to the District Assembly Elections the EC spoke about the credibility of the register , what has changed between between the District Level elections and now, the credible register has suddenly become incredible?
He further expatiated that since the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), says it has no problems with the register which was used in 2016 because the elections were free, fair and transparent and they beat the NDC’s John Mahama by 1 million votes with the same register, is that the same register we are talking about? Kwesi, asks.what has happened to the register since 2016?
He urged the EC to stop worrying the good people of Ghana because they have enormous issues, no light, water, hospitals etc yet the EC wishes to expend huge sums to compile a new register when the old one is credible.
“People are suffering in the country , don’t add to the problems with the compilation of a new register , the people need change in their lives not a new voters register,” Mr. Pratt said.
