AdubianewsA 33-year-old artist, Joshua Kerry Arthur, has been remanded by the Kaneshie District Court for allegedly killing and burying Professor Amedeker Mawuadem of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).
Arthur, charged with murder, appeared before Her Worship Nana Abena Asoh Owusu-Omenyo. His plea was not taken, and he is expected back in court on June 23, 2025.
According to Chief Inspector Margaret Ofori Boadi, the professor, aged 71, lived alone in a two-bedroom house at Gyahadze, a suburb of Winneba. Arthur, who also lives in the same area, reportedly scaled the wall of the house around 4:48 a.m. on May 21, 2025. He hid for a while, attacked the professor at about 7:30 a.m., and buried the body on the compound.
The suspect remained in the house and packed the professor’s belongings, including a 50-inch TCL TV and a black bag, into the deceased’s Toyota Fortuner with registration number GX 2658-15. He was waiting for the right moment to escape.
However, a colleague of the professor alerted the police after failing to reach him all day. Officers arrived at the house and noticed a stranger inside. They later found Arthur hiding in a guava tree on the compound.
Police found bloodstains and disturbed soil in the yard. A further search led to the discovery of the body, wrapped in a blue academic gown. The professor was dressed in black shorts and a brownish shirt, with a yellow nylon rope threaded through the belt loops.
The body was taken to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death. It was later moved to the Police Hospital morgue for autopsy and preservation. Investigations are still ongoing.
