The 10 West African heads of state who were in Accra on Sunday, May 30 have expressed gratitude to Ghana’s Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for calling the emergency summit of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (c).
President Akufo-Addo in his capacity as the Chair of the Authority convened the Extraordinary Summit in Accra over the political turmoil in Mali despite a roadmap agreed upon by all stakeholders in 2020.
A report from the Mediator, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the former President of Nigeria, was received at the Summit, held at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel.
After the Summit, the West African bloc decided to suspend Mali, demanding a return the to roadmap agreed upon at Peduase on September 15, 2020.
Interim President Bah Ndaw and Prime Minister Moctar Ouane have also been asked to be released immediately.
In the communique released after the Summit, the leaders expressed gratitude to Ghana’s leader “for convening this Extraordinary Summit on the political situation in Mali and for the facilities made available to ensure the successful conduct of the extraordinary Summit”.
