Former Tamale Central MP, Inusah Fuseini, has attributed the widespread breakdown in parliamentary result collation during the 2024 general election to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s early concession of defeat.
Appearing on Citi TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, 12 July 2025, Fuseini argued that the Bawumia’s concession disrupted parliamentary collation efforts by derailing the Electoral Commission’s (EC) structured process.
According to him, Dr Bawumia’s congratulatory message to NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama came at a time when the EC was still actively compiling both presidential and parliamentary results nationwide.
Fuseini said the concession led to widespread confusion and apathy at many collation centres. He explained that once the presidential results were seen as resolved, electoral officers and party agents lost focus on the parliamentary outcomes.
He cited Ablekuma North as a prime example, where the disorganisation contributed to the need for a rerun in 19 polling stations on 11 July 2025. He also highlighted similar disruptions in other constituencies such as Tema Central, Okaikwei Central, Akwatia, and Nsawam-Adoagyiri, where parliamentary results were only concluded after court-ordered recounts and recollation.
Fuseini’s comments have reignited concerns over how political actions during the collation period can undermine institutional processes, and he called for stronger protocols to prevent such disruptions in future elections.
