A key member of Kwabena Agyepong’s presidential campaign has described him as the most credible and qualified candidate in the New Patriotic Party’s upcoming flagbearer race.

Paul Abdul Rahman Issah Dowuona, who serves as spokesperson for Agyepong’s team, made the statement after the former NPP General Secretary officially picked up his nomination forms on Wednesday, 7 August.

Speaking on Channel One TV the following day, Issah Dowuona praised Agyepong for his “unmatched integrity, vision, and deep understanding of Ghana’s democratic principles,” asserting that these traits distinguish him from the other contenders.

He noted that the real competition lies between Agyepong, former Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

Issah Dowuona raised concerns about Kennedy Agyapong’s earlier remarks regarding his disinterest in the presidency. “He should first explain to Ghanaians when he decided he wanted to be president, because there are many interviews where he said otherwise. He should also explain when the NPP stopped being ‘stupid people’,” he remarked.

Turning to Dr. Bawumia, he acknowledged his contributions to the party but suggested it was time for him to bow out. “The former Vice-President has served the party for 16 years. He has done his best. We think he should go and rest,” he said.

He added that Ghanaians were still evaluating Bawumia’s performance from his time in office. “Ghanaians are still assessing his stewardship, and that was evident in the previous election. When Ing. Agyepong wins and we take power, after eight years, Ghanaians would have finished assessing him,” he explained.

Issah Dowuona concluded that Kwabena Agyepong’s proven track record, firm principles, and forward-looking vision make him the ideal leader to guide the NPP into the next general election. He emphasized the urgent need for a credible figure capable of restoring public confidence in the party.
