Award-winning Ghanaian highlife artist, George Kwabena Adu, popularly known as Kwabena Kwabena, has opened up about a moment he felt disrespected by a female gospel musician in Ghana.

In an interview with Doreen Avio on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz, the “Adult Music” hitmaker recounted a disappointing experience he had while attempting to engage a gospel artist in a potential music collaboration.

According to him, he reached out to the female gospel singer with the intention of having a direct and professional conversation about working together. However, instead of responding in kind, she referred him to speak to her husband.

“One particular gospel artiste was a bit disrespectful to me. She made me feel like I’m a worldly person. I called her personally, artiste-to-artiste, and then she asked me to speak to her husband,” Kwabena Kwabena shared.

He expressed his frustration, saying the interaction made him feel judged and looked down upon simply because of his identity as a secular musician, rather than being treated with mutual respect.

Despite this experience, the highlife star commended Obaapa Christy for her professionalism and openness. He revealed that she welcomed the idea of a music collaboration when he reached out to her, and treated the opportunity with honor and enthusiasm.

Kwabena Kwabena’s revelations shed light on the perceived divide between gospel and secular musicians in Ghana and the importance of mutual respect and open-mindedness in the music industry.
