Diella TekuPresident Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has thrown his full weight behind Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid for the presidency, calling him a visionary leader with the competence and readiness to propel Ghana toward greater progress. Speaking at a gathering of professional bodies in Kumasi on Sunday, November 24, the President highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s extensive experience and urged Ghanaians to rally behind him in the 2024 elections.
Addressing the audience, President Akufo-Addo underscored the pivotal role of the Ashanti Region in securing electoral victories for the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He implored the region not to repeat what he described as the “mistake of 2008,” when the party lost power, emphasizing the need for unity and a focused effort to deliver a resounding victory for Dr. Bawumia.
“The Ashanti Region has always been the bedrock of our success as a party. In this critical election, your support will once again determine the future of Ghana. Let us not falter; let us ensure Dr. Bawumia leads us to victory,” he stated.
President Akufo-Addo drew comparisons between past presidents, highlighting the unique opportunity afforded to three of his predecessors—Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor, and himself—to serve second terms in office. In contrast, he noted that former President John Dramani Mahama failed to secure re-election in 2016 due to what he described as poor leadership.
“Of all the presidents in Ghana’s Fourth Republic, only one failed to secure a second term—John Dramani Mahama. The reason was simple: he did not deliver. Now, we have a choice between a failed president and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a leader with proven competence and a clear vision,” President Akufo-Addo remarked.
The President urged the NPP faithful and all Ghanaians to trust in Dr. Bawumia’s ability to lead Ghana into a new era of growth and development. He pointed to the Vice President’s economic expertise and his innovative approaches to governance as qualities that distinguish him as the best candidate for the presidency.
Dr. Bawumia has consistently championed digital transformation, financial inclusion, and economic stability throughout his tenure, achievements that President Akufo-Addo believes position him as the ideal leader to continue the NPP’s legacy of progress.
As the campaign intensifies, the President’s endorsement adds significant momentum to Dr. Bawumia’s presidential aspirations, reinforcing his position as the NPP’s torchbearer for the 2024 elections.
