GoldBod Extends Gold Trading Licence Deadline to June 21, 2025

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has officially extended the deadline for compliance with its newly introduced gold trading licence regime. Initially set for May 21, 2025, the deadline has now been pushed to June 21, 2025. This extension follows appeals from industry stakeholders requesting additional time to adapt to the regulatory changes.

Under the new licensing directive, individuals and companies currently holding licences issued by the now-defunct Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources are permitted to continue operations only until the new June deadline. However, GoldBod has made it clear that this is a one-time, non-renewable extension.

As of May 22, 2025, all export rights previously granted under the old licences have been revoked. Going forward, GoldBod is the sole corporate entity authorized to export small-scale gold from Ghana. This move is intended to tighten regulation, enhance transparency, and maximize national revenue from gold resources.

GoldBod has warned that the use of licences from defunct agencies beyond the new deadline will be considered a punishable offence under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140). Offenders will face legal consequences for non-compliance.

The Board has urged all traders and stakeholders to apply for a valid GoldBod licence via its website. While the application process remains open, any gold trading activity conducted without a valid GoldBod licence after the June 21 deadline will be deemed illegal.

This regulatory shift aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision to ensure Ghana derives maximum benefit from its gold exports by placing oversight under one institution.

Stakeholders are advised to act promptly to avoid disruptions in their operations. GoldBod remains committed to facilitating a smooth transition for all players in the gold trading ecosystem.
