AdubianewsThe Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association of Ghana has announced a nationwide strike set to begin on Monday, June 2, 2025, in protest of the government’s failure to pay nearly a year’s worth of service allowances owed to its members.
The announcement was made during a press briefing held in Accra on May 14, 2025. At the briefing, the Association issued a 14-working-day ultimatum to the Ministries of Health and Finance, demanding immediate financial clearance and payment of allowances. The ultimatum expired without a response from the government, prompting the decision to proceed with the strike.
According to the Association’s President, Ebenezer Boateng, the delay in disbursing the allowances has had severe consequences on their members’ well-being. He revealed that five members have died and six others are currently battling critical health conditions due to financial stress.
The Association estimates that over 20,000 rotational nurses and midwives are affected.
They are demanding:
●Immediate financial clearance for all unpaid members, including newly posted nurses and midwives
●Timely payment of all accumulated allowances
The Association also used its official Facebook page and media outlets to spread the message, emphasizing that the strike will continue until all demands are met.
As of now, there has been no official communication from the Ministries of Health or Finance regarding the issue. The planned strike is expected to significantly impact healthcare services across the country.
