CID arrests five suspects and rescues 57 Nigerians from a human trafficking and cybercrime ring in Community 25, Accra.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested five suspects and rescued 57 Nigerian nationals from a human trafficking and cybercrime syndicate operating at Adom Estates in Community 25, Greater Accra.

The intelligence-led operation, carried out on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, uncovered a network that allegedly lured young Nigerians to Ghana under false pretenses of employment and education opportunities.

According to the police, the arrested suspects, Joel Nosa, Collins Rotimi, Shadrack Lulu, Austin Amahuaro, and John Uloko, were behind the criminal scheme. A statement signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the CID, revealed that preliminary investigations showed the victims, aged between 18 and 26, were coerced into cyber fraud activities upon arrival.

“Upon arrival, the victims, aged between 18 and 26 years, were coerced into engaging in online romance scams and other heinous activities,” the statement said.

During the operation, police recovered 77 laptops, 38 mobile phones, two vehicles, three television sets, and several other internet-enabled gadgets suspected to have been used in the criminal acts.

The 57 rescued victims are currently receiving medical and psychological care, while the suspects remain in police custody to assist with ongoing investigations. The confiscated items have been kept for forensic examination.

The Police Service has cautioned the public, especially young people, to be wary of job, education, or travel offers made through unverified social media channels.

“The Police reiterate their determination to combat human trafficking, cybercrime, and related offences, and urge anyone with credible information on such activities to report to the nearest police station,” the statement added.
