Nigerian musician, Mayorkun, real name Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, has opened up on the nature of his relationship with his former boss, David Adeleke, also known as Davido.
As a reminder, David discovered Mayorkun in 2016 and later signed him to his record label, DMW, and that collaboration launched his career as a professional musician.
Under Davido’s guidance, Mayorkun released his debut single “Eleko,” which garnered significant attention and set the stage for his future success.
Their collaboration extended beyond music, with Mayorkun living with Davido for about three years, during which he absorbed invaluable industry knowledge and honed his craft.
The relationship between Davido and Mayorkun is still solid and firmly based on respect for one another and a personal tie, even after their professional separation.
Mayorkun, who became well-known under Davido’s DMW label, has always made it clear that their bond goes beyond business. He has said that Davido has a deep understanding of him and that their relationship doesn’t need continual public validation.
Mayorkun has explained in interviews that their decision to keep their relationship private rather than displaying disagreement is the reason for their few social media activities.
While expressing his gratefulness for Davido’s impact on his life, Mayorkun, who is currently in Ghana to promote a music project, revealed that he spent his last 6 hours in Nigeria with Davido before leaving for Ghana.
This is to say that the two musicians maintain a strong bond as musical colleagues and might even work on some upcoming projects together.
