Opposition Urges Ken Ofori‑Atta To Submit To Corruption Investigation

Kwame Jantuah, a leading member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), has called on former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to return to Ghana and respond to ongoing corruption allegations raised by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

Jantuah made this call during a panel discussion on Asaase Radio’s The Forum, highlighting the importance of transparency and accountability in public office.

Ofori-Atta, who is currently under investigation by the OSP, has been the subject of an INTERPOL red notice after failing to appear before the authorities on multiple occasions.

While his team has cited medical reasons, specifically a postponed surgery, as justification for his absence, Jantuah urged him to clear his name if he is able to travel.

“If Ken Ofori-Atta is fit to travel, he should demonstrate leadership and return to address the matter openly,” Jantuah stated.

He emphasized the need to respect due process and avoid public bias: “Everyone is innocent until proven guilty. We should not let public sentiment overshadow justice.” However, he criticized Ofori-Atta’s legal team for failing to communicate updates to the OSP following the rescheduling of his March 25 surgery.

Calling for transparency, Jantuah advised the former minister to provide proof of any medical treatments and demonstrate a willingness to cooperate with investigators. “Such actions will restore some credibility and trust,” he noted.

While insisting on accountability, Jantuah also warned against treating Ofori-Atta unfairly. “No one deserves to be humiliated before being proven guilty, not even a former minister,” he said.

Addressing political concerns, Jantuah dismissed fears of persecution under a Mahama-led administration. He assured that if Ofori-Atta were indeed unwell upon his return, the government would not deny him access to necessary medical care.
