Ghanaian musician Shatta Wale has praised the Asantehene for fostering strong cultural pride among the Ashanti people. He believes the monarch’s leadership has cultivated unity and a deep sense of identity within the Ashanti Kingdom.
According to Shatta Wale, Ashantis are widely known for being proud of their heritage and are not afraid to show it wherever they find themselves. He attributes this confidence to the Asantehene’s consistent efforts in nurturing love and respect among his people.
The artist contrasted this with what he perceives as a lack of cultural cohesion among residents of Greater Accra. He noted that people from the region often lack the sense of community and ethnic pride demonstrated by Ashantis.
Shatta Wale expressed disappointment about being born in Greater Accra, explaining that the cultural environment there does not inspire the same pride and connection seen in other parts of Ghana, especially the Ashanti Region.
His comments have sparked discussions on social media, with some users agreeing with his sentiments while others have criticised him for making generalisations about regional identities in Ghana.
