In Ghana, or anywhere in the world, I have never heard of any written law that prohibited the rich or bourgeoisie class integrating with the downtrodden. Back in the slave trade and apartheid era, racial, ethnic and chauvinistic segregation were ripe in the system which created a perceived barrier between the elite society and the vulnerable.
It wasn’t an accepted taboo, and neither was it an enigma for anyone from wealthy background to Beautifully integrate with someone from a perceived lower background.
Love is simply the underlying factor that binds two individuals of the opposite sex together. Anything short of that raises suspicion and eyebrows as to the actual reason behind one person of a certain class opting for a lover, also of another class.
Notwithstanding the above perceptions, in some homes (globally), it is simply an anathema, and putatively a societal norm that royals or people from luxurious environment are shunned away from choosing lovers from poor homes.
As learned family and genealogy, that status-quo must be maintain. No compromise.
The
fame and popularity arising out of ostentatious lifestyle alone debars their relations from getting closer to people with vulnerable background. They say poverty is contagious.
This is a subject for another day.
The most difficult aspect of all integration is the rich marrying the poor, persons with substantial affluence falling for a lower class person, and not the educated against semi-educated, or the educated against uneducated.
Sometimes trade partners (career contemporaries), campus relationships are intensified because of the elite mentality.
More importantly, anytime a person with
lower background is paired against a royal or the affluent, the genealogies that proceed out of those relationships becomes unique and remarkable.
* Biblically, out of Rebecca and Isaac (both royals) came the tribes of Israel (Gen 32:27-29/49:1:28).
* Out of Esther and King Xerxes came the triumphant Jews (Esth 9:1-4).
* Out of Ruth and Boaz came the savior Jesus Christ (Ruth 4:16-22).
* Out of the stakes of Pharaoh came Moses the redeemer of Israel (Ex 2:1-10).
Out of the wonderful above scenarios, Akosua Dubai, the Accra Dubai businesswoman beautifully paired against KOO NIMO the garage owner, could possibly produce the next President, the next CEOs, the next First Ladies, and the next MPs.
One notable issue is that the progeny of those prestige class are not statutorily affirmed to maintain their status quo.
It is one thing hailing from an affluent background, and it is another, being capable of maintaining the source of affluence and prestige image of the family. It isn’t a divinely preserved norm.
One’s tenacity and zeal to follow every laid down ambitions, obligations and goals determines one’s capability to maintain the said status quo.
The irony of this kind of relationship is where one pretend to love because of myopic interest and conditionality.
He or she from a perceived elite class who decides to marry a low esteemed person is sanctified and nourished by the genuineness of the heart of the individuals, and blessed by both families, then certified by the Almighty.
Notwithstanding that, the destiny of every human being is in the hands of God the Almighty whereby he determines who or what anybody could become in future.
The breakdown of the biblical examples and personalities involved attest to the lessons on our table.
Who foreknew that a certain Joseph, originally despised, disliked, rejected and sold out as a SLAVE, could end up becoming a Vice President and an agric Minister of a third most powerful country at the time, Egypt?
At the time of being sold out as SLAVE, he was a minor and an outcast. It is therefore a misnomer, to attempt to propose him to a supposed Princes in relationship.
Queen Esther being brought together with King Xerxes was a Divine spectacle because, Esther was an orphan and a refugee in somebody’s country .
If a Royal, a King or an affluent man is looking for a partner, I don’t think his first choice will be an orphan who also doubles as a foreigner too.
The stature of an African King or Monarch alone determines who he marries. It is empirical that whoever he marries must be synonymous with his status and stature to compliment his high office and prestige life.
Significantly too, it was Esther (from poor background) who brought exceptional dignity to the Palace and Harem of Susa in Persia.
Meanwhile prior to the contest and search for replacement for Queen Vashti, the choice of Esther could have been an afterthought. Nobody would dare dream of that endeavor.
By human standard, typical of the African Monarch or elite and prestigious class, you dare not come home introducing anyone with such poor background to your parents.
Another beautiful example was Boaz, a relative of Naomi from Judah.
Ruth happened to be a native of Moab, an enemy nation to Israel, then a daughter-in-law to Naomi whom she brought from there.
Historically, any man from Judah will dare not marry from Moab.
A Moabite lady? It is a non starter.
Naomi brought Ruth from Moab and she ended up becoming a choice for Boaz, a Royal and a wealthy farmer from Judah.
I have to lay more emphasis on this phenomenon because the destiny of every human being isn’t determined by fellow man.
It is the prerogative of the Almighty alone.
If a prestige person decides to fall in love with a person of lower class, the love between the two, the commitment between the two, the understand between the two, the resolve to live for and by each other, becomes the ultimate.
Out of Boaz and Ruth came the genealogy of David and our Lord Jesus Christ.
It could be an extremely difficult thing for any family to contend with.
Our son or daughter, marrying a poor widow (not freshly woman) from poor home too?
If a widow, but rich with estates from previous relationship, could be a compensation. But a destitute widow, demands divine enablement to accept such a match into some families.
That’s the picture as painted by families for their progenies.
Stature in relationship can be managed, with God being the overall superintendent of the union.
